Investment projects in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s oil and gas chemical industry is actively developing, with large investment projects being implemented. At present, the country already operates the KPI polypropylene plant. The main feedstock – propane from Tengiz – is delivered to the KPI plant by rail.

A subsidiary of KMG will build a modern oil products storage facility in the Turkestan region. KazMunayGas-Aero LLP is launching a major investment project in the Turkestan region with an investment volume of about 5 billion tenge. A project for the extraction and supply of crude gas from the Tuzkol field in the Kyzylorda region has been launched The project operator is Tuzkolmunaigas Operating, which implements the initiative in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and with the participation of relevant national companies. At the initial stage, the volume of crude gas supplies will be about 30 million m3 per year.

This is a large-scale industrial project to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and a methanol plant in the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan. The LNG plant is designed to be the first of its kind in Central Asia, with an annual capacity of about 145,000 tonnes of LNG, located on a 16-hectare site near the Port of Kuryk on the Caspian Sea. Adjacent to that, a methanol plant is planned with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year.

The Northern-1 project is a strategic initiative to explore and develop one of Kazakhstan’s most promising natural gas fields, located in the western region of the country. QazaqGaz, the national gas operator, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a leading global energy company, have signed agreements to advance the project into its next phase.

The Zhaik Petroleum Gas Chemical Complex is an industrial project focused on the production of methanol from natural gas in Western Kazakhstan. The plant is designed with an annual production capacity of approximately 130,000 tons of methanol, positioning it as the first large-scale methanol production facility in the country.

The Aktau Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant Expansion is a planned large-scale energy infrastructure project aimed at constructing two combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units with a total capacity of 500 MW in Aktau, Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan. , Ltd.

The project represents a combined modernization initiative at the Atyrau Oil Refinery aimed at improving operational efficiency, environmental performance, and measurement accuracy across key refinery systems. It includes the construction of a gas compression unit for capturing and processing off-gases from primary refining units (ELOU-AT-2, ELOU-AVT-3, and delayed coking unit UZK).

5 million tons per year to 9 million tons per year. It forms part of Kazakhstan’s national strategy to modernize its major oil refineries and strengthen domestic fuel supply security. A key objective of the project is to achieve Euro-5 fuel quality standards through deep upgrading and modernization of refining units.
